I made a WOOD HOT TUB out of 2x6s

part1, today we're gonna make a hot tub out of cedar two by sixes i've. seen round cedar hot, tubs before but those require quite a bit of skill to. pull off so i wanted to use, cedar 2x6 is typically used for decking to. try and make the easy diy version after cutting the, two by twoes to length. i then laid out one of the side panels on my maker brand, t-bar clamps. i'm going to use two layers of two by 6es for each panel and i. want, to offset the joints this means i have to rip down a few pieces. on my table saw, to help me get that staggered effect i also want overlap. where these side panels are going to, meet the shorter end panels so the second. layer of two, inches shorter on each side. i started by using a caulking gun to squirt clear flex seal construction, adhesive on. the edges of the. panels and then apply just a little bit of. pressure, with the maker brand clamps to push the edges all together i really want. to seal in between, these two layers because that's the part that's going to be. invisible so i used a paint brush, to apply a real thick coat of liquid. clear Flex seal and then started screwing down the second, layer. panels i ran out, of the white flex seal so i switched to white which. i was trying to avoid using because, i had a feeling i would have to. really scrape it out of the cracks as it oozed, up when i screwed the. boards together this bottom panel has one and a half inch ledges on, both sides. to make sure that the top. of the second layer of the two by, sixes is going to meet the bottom. of. the. end panels once the flex seal had fully cured i then used. a, razor blade just to scrape out the excess i measured the top layer of,. the bottom panel so, that i would know how long to cut the pieces for. the two end panels while i was, getting started on the end panels i had. my sister jessie sand the. bottom panel i laid, out some boards just to see how wide it would feel. if i was inside of it and, decided to make it three, inches wide so, i started with the first, layer of one. inch wide spacer and flex. sealed in between the first layer and, the second, layer of. two by. sixes and, i used the same. rubber spatula was better at spreading the. flex seal to the ends since the corners of this tub. are, going to have the weak points for leaks next up i started making the second side panel with a layer of waterproof flex seal. in the middle of, it i made the two side panel same as the first. starting with a. spring clamps but this time i used. to help hold the pieces, tightly together i had to. loosen up the clamps and, install the last piece and, it was. one of, the ones that had ripped down on the table saw now i have. a, nice three inch thick solid wood panel that. overlaps with the bottom of the hot tub i kept adding the. second layer and. occasionally i'd use a clamp to help set the. edge of the end. panels so i could remove that and, make a nice ledge that will create a nice angle for the. side panels to. meet the top of the tub. i also discovered that a one and, inch. wide, strip was a little tedious on the side of things so i temporarily screwed in a. one and. inch. strip but once i got the first piece of the bottom layer installed i. could remove the gap that's left there will create an additional layer. waterproofing, but i thought with this way it would be easier to install the other. side panel. i used some. angle brackets to help make that. angle flex. made that angle down so that i could install the two. side. panels. i really wanted to get a lot of the ends of them seal, so i cut do multiple continuous beads. i used these silicone be really heavy to make a lot the. ends of these. panels would be really thick so i made sure that they were going to. be solid slabs with no overh some of them would be. easy to pull off as well as having each end panels have a. 60 degree angle to. the top panel so i can make it look like it's. a lot easier to. get the end of these two by, sixes. wide again i started.
