Stock Tank Pool DIY

part1, i turned this livestock tank into a pool and today i'm going to show. you exactly how i, did it i chose this location for a pool because. it's private but still gets plenty of, midday sun this is a temporary location for. this pool so rather than using crushed rock or sand, as the base i'm actually. using high quality soil because by this time next year i plan on, having vegetables. growing here the first step is to create a nice smooth level platform for the. pool, a long straight 2x4 works great for ensuring the ground is smooth and level. so here's the stock, tank it's eight feet in diameter and two feet deep and. was really easy to transport on top, of the bed of my pickup truck as. you can see it's also surprisingly lightweight and pretty easy, to move because it's just. a giant wheel most farm supply and feed stores sell these large stock, tanks but. due to the recent popularity of these stock tank pools the hardest part of this. project, was tracking one down with the tank in place i'll double check that it's. level because once it's, full it's going to weigh almost 6 000 pounds so any. adjustments need to happen now so at, this point i could just fill this stock. tank with water and i would have a stock tank, pool a very simple one. and in fact that's what i've done the last couple of months just, filled with. water added a chlorine float skimmed off any leaves or sediment with a regular pool. skimmer, and it's worked great but over time the water did become a little bit. murky probably because of, sunscreen and that sort of thing so today i, am going to. turn this into a true stock tank, pool by installing a pump and i'll even. show you how to install the pump i'm. going to start by installing the inlet fitting this is where the water will, re-enter the. pump after being filtered in the pump it should be installed near the top edge. of, the pool but below the surface of the water i use the gasket to. mark exactly where i, need to drill the hole tapping a nail or screw in. the center will keep the pilot bit, from sliding around as i start to drill. i'll use a file to smooth out any of the rough edges on the inside of the pool with the bleeder. valve, facing up i'll thread on the collar hand tight this plunger valve is not. required but it's convenient, because it allows me to stop the flow of water to. the pump when necessary now i'll drill, the hole for the outlet fitting which should. be placed near the bottom of the pump and about, a quarter of the way. from the top of the. tank i'll attach the hose to the pump with a screw and a, pencil oh and a file i'll add a link to it in the description below so you can learn more. about it if you're, interested. i'll install the hose i'm using to connect the pump to the tank and i'm also using a drill a three and, one quarter inch hole saw a two and. three quarter inch tool saw a tape measure and a, pencil ohand a file. i'm, going to add the hose and a screw to the pool i'll also add a clip to the end of the hose so i can attach it to the. fitting it can install it with a nail and a. screw is not screw in the center of the hole i'm installing it can installing. installing it i'll show you exactly. how i made it i'm, using a vacuum hose, right into the system so. that you can vacuum up any sediment that doesn't make it, to the pumps. the pump comes with. two inch and a half connection hoses and one inlet fitt i purchased, these two. plunger valves separately and i was unable to find an outlet fitting anywhere in stock. so, i made this diy outlet fitting from materials i found on my local hardware. store for about 10, bucks and i, made it. attach to the hose with a glue i have to do two of the holes in the hose, to make sure that the hose is going to be properly connected to the, pump i'll do the same thing with the hose that i'm attaching to the outlet. fitting i'll hook the hose up to the hook on the outside of the tank so i'll be able to. connect it with the hook and hook it up to a pump pump, hook up with a hose and. hook it to a hose so that i can. connect just the pump, i can hook up to it and i can, hook it. to the water circulation to optimize water circulation
